  • AP: Harley-Davidson seeks to expand overseas

"MILWAUKEE - With its foray into China under way and an eye toward boosting sales overseas, Harley-Davidson is looking to sell its iconic motorcycles in India and Vietnam. Representatives from the company recently traveled to both countries to meet with government officials, said Tim Hoelter, Harley's vice president of government affairs. The Milwaukee-based company is working with U.S. officials to lessen what Harley sees as two major barriers to entering India — stringent emissions standards and tariffs of more than 90 percent. Vietnam recently agreed to end its outright ban on large motorcycles and lessen its tariffs more than 60 percent over the coming years, as part of a trade pact with the United States, he said."

  • BNO and Uncaged Librarian: PEZ Chopper

"Orange County Choppers, Inc., the group behind the American Chopper television show, is constructing this PEZ chopper for display at the PEZ factory. OCC charges $100,000 or more to do a themed motorcycle like this. PEZ is apparently also planning an Orange County Choppers Gift Set that will be "limited" to 250,000 or 300,000 sets. There will be a set of three dispensers, one for each of the stars of the show: Paul Sr., Paul Jr., and Mikey. The release date is supposed to be around October. If this happens, it will represent a departure from PEZ's long-standing rule that no dispensers are made of real people. Dispensers showing "humans" are not prohibited, but dispensers showing a real-life person are -- or were. A Princess Leia dispenser shows a "person", but that person is a character from a movie, not the actress playing the character. The OCC guys may seem a bit cartoonish, but they are real people playing themselves on the show, not actors playing a character."

  • Bikernet.com: A Krugger Classic

"No one has the touch of Krugger and so far this in the Bikernet favorite of the European winners. But I'd like to throw in a thought. When it comes to competitions such as this we seem to be drawn toward bikes that look historic, and the flashy chopper are left behind. In the past we looked at stock classics with distain, tore 'em apart and built candy apple red, stretched monsters. All of a sudden that 40 layers of hand rubbed lacquer, and smooth as-a-baby's-ass sheet metal is frowned upon. I say we divide the classes, so the craftsmanship of both realms is considered."

"Fifth place was taken by Krazy Horse Cycles from the UK, with their 'Zeroesque', an Ironhead Sportster homage to the styling that emerged from Shinya Kimura's Zero Engineering in Japan. Other trends now clearly seen through the Official European Championship have been the growing popularity and quality of 'retro' styling, and, conversely, the continuing development of cutting edge suspension, chassis and driveline technology and the use of light weight materials. • SFC: Pull over Harley, looks like Honda's on your tail

"For nearly 100 years, Harley has dominated the U.S. market -- the company said last year that its motorcycles "are presently in service with some 2,800 law enforcement agencies nationwide. Now, however, Honda, the world's most successful maker of motorcycles, is testing the law enforcement waters here. Honda has the largest share of the U.S. civilian motorcycle market, with 26.9 percent of all new bikes sold in the United States, followed by Harley with 23.7 percent and then a handful of other manufacturers, according to figures for 2004 provided by the Motorcycle Industry Council. • Cycle Source: Etched in Time - a Johnny Chop bike

"You could look at a bike that Chop built, even before you saw him with it and know that it was one that he did. His work with this bike was such a great combination of the classic styling and modern functional attributes that it demands credit and deserves nothing less. Little details are where the devil lies for Johnny, and its features like the oil line routing or lifted skirt on the gas tank that defines this as a Johnny Chop bike. For so many people in this industry today the words “Old School” have become a way to sell you something or make you think that their product is cool, but this, this is old school man. "
