  • BUELL XBRR PRODUCTION BEGINS

"Buell Motorcycle Company announced today that the production of XBRR race bikes, based on the Firebolt XB12R, has begun. A total of 50 XBRRs will be built in the production run. Buell announced last month that XBRR production had been delayed as engineers analyzed and refined components based on what was learned from the XBRR’s AMA Formula Xtreme racing debut at the Daytona 200 in March. Redesigned parts include new driveline components and a new timing trigger wheel, as well as a switch from a high-contact to a coarse-pitch 5th gear, according to Chairman and Chief Technical Officer Erik Buell. A larger oil cooler was also developed for the XBRR."

  • Record Online: Immortalizing Indian Larry

"The 85-minute film contains interviews with Indian Larry's family and friends. Film clips of Larry as well as photos by celebrity photographer and one of Larry's close friends, Timothy White, bring this documentary film to a personal level. Baker is known for his field cuttings of the Statue of Liberty, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and Albert Einstein. In the film, he was asked what his next cutting would be and was pretty much sold on jazz legend John Coltrane. But he kept turning back to a photograph of a motorcycle that he had painted and realized that he owed something to the very thing that made him what he was, an artist. He wanted to pay homage to the custom motorcycle business. And what better way than cutting a portrait of the best of the best, a true innovator and trendsetter in the bike-building world, Indian Larry? The film starts with Baker working out the illustration, based on a photo of Indian Larry by White, on a graph. Soon after, the cutting begins by using tractor mowers, push mowers and weed whackers, leading to the final touching flyover for Larry's family and friends in open-cockpit biplanes to view the finished field on the anniversary of Larry's death. There wasn't a dry eye in the theater, including my own."

  • wheels24.co.za: Big bear venom chopper

"The bike is a Venom machine from Big Bear Choppers in California. Basically, you can call them up and order an unassembled kit. Thing is, you can modify as much as you want with the reassurance that everything fits together with almost no need for hammering, welding or cutting. The guys at East Coast Choppers in Ballito are the authorised Big Bear dealers in South Africa. So what is the Venom? At the back sits a fat 18 by 8.5-inch rear wheel with 250-rear section tyre. Drive is by a 3-inch BDL open belt primary that has been mated to a 6-speed overdrive transmission. Grumbling power is courtesy of a billet-polished Revtech 110 cubic inch (1800cc) Evo twin that produces 90kW. "
