It all started in 1957. The Harley Davidson Sportster made it’s debut in 57' as an new overhead valve motor replaced the flathead motor of the K models. The new four cammer allowed the pushrods a more direct path to the rockers and made cam timing a much simpler affair. the original sporty sported an 883cc mill making 40 horses at 5,500 rpm. Built as a response to the growing popularity of the British twins, the sporty was a success.
